What a busy month it has been for Calido... Our beta development partners are making great progress with our new software product Comet - with real time scheduling just around the corner. This edition is bumper packed with information on various topics, from viruses to barcode scanners, I am sure everyone will have a good read. If you have any questions relating to specific technology areas, or an article that you would like to see in our newsletter, please don't hesitate to mention them. Yours sincerely,
The objective of this e-mail is to warn all Hotmail users about a new virus that is spreading by MSN Messenger. The name of this virus is jdbgmgr.exe and it is sent automatically by the Messenger and by the address book too. The virus is not detected by McAfee or Norton and it stays quiet for 14 days before damaging the system. The virus can be cleaned before it deletes the files from your system. In order to eliminate it, it is just necessary to do the following steps: <a list of steps for you to delete a file from your hard disk> IF YOU FIND THE VIRUS IN ALL OF YOUR SYSTEMS SEND THIS MESSAGE TO ALL OF YOUR CONTACTS LOCATED IN YOUR ADDRESS BOOK BEFORE IT CAN CAUSE ANY DAMAGE. (More information relating to this virus hoax can be found here) Emails of this nature are more often than not a hoax that are persuading you to delete files from your hard disk, or to send emails on to other people. In either case you are damaging your system, and/or helping to damage other peoples systems. If you are unsure about these 'chain' emails, don't be afraid to do a search on the internet for content contained in the email. Most times you will find information straight away that will indicate if the email is a hoax or not. Other places of interest on the internet that can help disprove these urban myths are: Urban Legends Reference Pages Symantec Security Search McAfee - Virus Hoaxes
(This link does not mention their post war efforts. For 'official' information on post IRAQ war, please email: kerry.taylor@careaustralia.org.au) If you would like to donate money to this cause, please refer to the Care Australia website.
The hackers are sending out bulk emails claiming to be a representative of a bank and requiring clients to re-enter an account and password into a bogus website (looing exactly like the banks 'official' website). If you receive an email of this calibre, please contact your bank to ensure its authenticity - in most cases, banks are able to set/re-set your login details via the phone.
Some of the new features of Crystal Reports 9 include:
The BB-Snapshot comes in a keyboard wedge configuration allowing direct input to your software (including Comet). Some of the impressive features include:
Why not invest in a wireless network access point that will save you time and money when implementing new connections to your LAN. Contrary to some belief, wireless networks today are very secure - you can actually specify the unique address of the computers you wish to connect to the network. This prohibits foreign computers gaining access to your local network and retains the security of your data. (More information on wireless networking can be viewed in issue 7 of our newsletter.) Wireless access points start from as low as $229 (RRP $299), PCMCIA network cards $99 (RRP $129) or PCI cards from $149 (RRP $179). As you can see, with such a small investment, you can save an awful lot of hassle/wiring.
Winzip has a licensing model to suit your requirements with pricing starting from as low as $6.05 per user - you CAN afford to legalise all of your staff members. Contact Calido today for a licensing plan to suit your requirements.
