Performance of Manufacturing Index
The Australian Performance of Manufacturing Index rose to 60.8 points which is the highest it has been in over 2 years.

Food and beverage, textiles and basic metals performed the best over the period mainly due to improved demand, improved supply, and stronger exports.

New business rose to 62.6 which is the highest level since May 2002. Employment also rose over the month (across all sectors), particularly for larger corporations.

Microsoft's New Anti-Spyware Software
Microsoft have released a new Anti Spyware software package (currently in Beta) at their website that you can download free of charge.

Windows AntiSpyware (Beta) is a security technology that helps protect Windows users from spyware and other potentially unwanted software. Known spyware on your computer can be detected and removed. This helps reduce negative effects caused by spyware, including slow computer performance, annoying pop-up ads, unwanted changes to Internet settings, and unauthorized use of your private information. Continuous protection improves Internet browsing safety by guarding more than 50 ways spyware can enter your computer. The worldwide SpyNet™ community plays a key role in determining which suspicious programs are classified as spyware. Microsoft researchers quickly develop methods to counteract these threats, and updates are automatically downloaded to your computer so you stay up to date.

It appears there will be an anti-virus application you will be able to purchase from Microsoft in the near future.

Windows XP Service Pack 2
Windows XP Service Pack 2 has settled into the update process and can be downloaded directly from Microsoft at the Windows XP Service Pack 2 website.

Computers running our Comet Server will need a few tweaks to continue operating under SP2. As the Windows Firewall is turned on by default in SP2, I will need to send you an information sheet to open several ports for the database operation.
