Windows XP SP1 Released
Microsoft has released a new service pack for Windows XP (SP1).

Windows XP Service Pack 1 provides the latest security and reliability updates to Windows XP and includes Internet Explorer 6 SP1. An important feature of SP1 is the additional support for USB 2.0.

Microsoft have also made changes to the Product Activation procedures in Windows XP Service Pack 1 (more details are available here) making it harder for people with illegal copies.

Office XP SP2 Released
Microsoft has released a new service pack for Office XP (SP2).

MS Office XP SP2 contains significant security enhancements, as well as stability and performance improvements.

Naming Conventions
Calido has released a short summary of its suggested naming conventions for MS Access and Visual Basic users. This list was compiled using the Microsoft Consulting Services Naming Conventions as well as industry accepted variants.

Smiley Face :-) Turns 20
A recent newsarticle at cnn.com brings to light the history of the simple smiley face :-). Scott Fahlman (an IBM researcher) used the symbol to mark a humorous comment in a message posted on a Carnegie Mellon University bulletin board.
