Hyper-threading operates by splitting processor loads into different threads enabling them to be processed simultaneously. Independent tests have found that Hyper-threading actually decreases processor performance this this functionality turned on. It appears that time spent splitting the process then switching between executing them both is not as fast as processing the information on a first come first served basis. In summary, don't expect a huge performance increase with this new technology. Rather, it will be exciting to see what Intel have on the drawing board for the extra realestate gained by reducing the 0.13 micron process to 0.09 microns early next year.
