Happy New Year... 2003 has kicked off with a bang for Calido. We have installed our premier product 'Comet' at 2 beta sites and have received positive feedback on its operation. Unfortunately, this is a lite version of our monthly newsletter as we have been very busy and were unable to research some great news topics. Nonetheless, we have some terrific bargains such as the Panasonic KX-P7100 Laser printer that is sure to enhance your office printouts. Yours sincerely,
In reality, the only common factor between these 2 technologies is that they both allow devices to communicate with each without using a fixed cable. The major difference between the two technologies is that if you want constant communications from a device to a server, you would use 802.11b (e.g. Connections requiring windows authentication to a server providing file/internet access.) On the other hand, if you require communications between Devices for short amounts of time, you would select Blue Tooth (e.g. Printing a document from a handheld device.) Of course, with these 2 standards there are differences in power consumption, range, and cost. Blue Tooth was designed with portable devices in mind and hence requires substantially lower power requirements than 802.11b. On the other hand, 802.11b has a much wider range than Blue Tooth.
I find it re-assuring that PRICE has finally been recognised as a major holdup with the uptake of broadband internet. More precisely, per megabit charges have been referred to as potential barriers of great takeup of broadband internet access. (Monthly usage was also mentioned as hampering high bandwidth applications such as streaming video.) The report goes on to mention the volatility of pricing intervention etc etc so I wouldnt hold my breathe in waiting for the prices to come down...
